Overall, a dramatic competition event for Patrick, who achieved half of his goal to complete two clean skates and landed a new quad in competition. Even though it was a bit disappointing to know that he could have won the event, to me the important thing is that he demonstrated he is totally capable of winning future competitions with the top men. We believe in you, Patrick! Don’t give up!

2016 Grand Prix Final: Day 2 – Short Program Competition

Woohoo! Patrick did his best, a clean program, and he is now sitting in second place going into the long program competition on Saturday! I did notice a few stylistic changes to his spins and movements. Watch the video:

**NEW: Transcript (below) of David Wilson’s comments about Patrick in his new interview with TSL!** At last our blackbird will travel to Marseille for the ISU Grand Prix Final (GPF)! The mens’ competition will be intense, pitting established champions against the aggressive younger generation. Here were Patrick’s thoughts about the upcoming events:

At this point in his career he wants to be concerned only with his own challenges and goals. The minute he gets concerned with winning, that means lots of quads, and that means setting himself up for trouble.
Read more about his comments here and here!

Transcript of British Eurosport Commentary

Out of all of the English-language commentary about Patrick’s free skate at Cup of China, I thought that the British Eurosport commentary (video) was the best one. Below is a transcription of what they said about “A Journey”:

After placing third in the short program, Patrick won! He’s going to the Grand Prix Final!! Such a lovely free program that impressed commentators and spectators alike! What great news for me to wake up to! I am bleary-eyed but satisfied as I update this post! Below is one of my favorite moments captured in slow motion – see how calm and composed Patrick looks!

Cup of China (CoC) has concluded, and I collected everything I could about Patrick’s first two days of competition here! (For info on his free skate, see my post here.) Right now Patrick sits in third after the short program (judges’ scores). I don’t know how long it will be ummuted, but here is the YouTube video:
