Ever since I spotted this Stars on Ice (SOI) Toronto photo of Patrick by skating fan Emi (above), something about his face and pose on the ice during that moment just captured me (it also showed the best side of him). The expression is serious but not harsh, focused but not isolating, with a bit of softness added. He is just… in the moment, still and calm as deep waters, or so it seems.
Out of all the SOI photos of Patrick that I’ve seen, this one will be a classic favorite of mine for years to come. I contacted Emi, who graciously permitted me to share her photos on this site. I think they are a feast for the skating fan’s eyes.
These photos also gave me an idea. I don’t know how often Patrick gets promotional photos taken of him on the ice, but I think he should on a regular basis. Then again, it may be difficult to replicate that intensity we see when he is performing in front of an audience. Emi captured it so well in her “Esqualo” photos below:

An Emotional “Sound of Silence”
Emi also captured Patrick’s poignant expressions as he skated to “Sound of Silence” by Disturbed with castmates Elvis Stojko and Jeffrey Buttle.

A Sunny “Mack The Knife” (MTK)
In contrast, the mood lightened up considerably when Patrick performed “Mack The Knife” (ironic, since the subject matter of the song is rather gruesome), but that look of determination on his face remained.
A big “thank you” to Emi for capturing these subtle, beautiful moments during Patrick’s performances! Oh yes, he does emote with his entire body AND his face, telling a story through expression and movement. No doubt performing with the rest of the talented SOI cast also helped him project outward and engage with his audience more. The Ice 2016 should be spectacular!
